Located in the Chattahoochee National Forest, Lake Russell Campground is owned by the US Forest Service. It has a total of only 42 campsites that are very well maintained and which all suitable for tent camping, and 11 of these are specifically for tent camping.

The campground is located right on the shores of Lake Russell which is a long and narrow lake, but only 100 total acres. There is plenty of fishing with bass, catfish and bream being the main species of fish. A boat ramp is available, however it is electric motors only, no gas motors.

To go along with the fishing there is access to many hiking trails, lake swimming and canoeing. Nearby there is also access to whitewater rafting and is not a very long drive to Lake Sydney Lanier.

The campground is only open from Memorial Day until Labor Day however the lake is open year round for fishing and boating.

With only 42 available campsites and no gas motors permitted on the lake these is the campground for the individuals who truly want to enjoy the outdoors and the sounds of nature. It is an extremely quite place and is very rarely over crowded.
